Peelings

Unlike lasers including the principle active base is light, peels were as active chemical ingredient, hence the term of chemical peels.

These substances are often natural such as cane sugar glycolic acid or Malic acid of Apple, licorice Kojic acid.

Chemical peels are used to many indications as:

refresh the complexion and the grain of the skin (“bullwhip effect”), tightening pores
mitigation of some brown spots (see melasma)
improvement of acne and some scars.

They can be used alone, combined with each other or with lasers.

There are three (3) types of peeling their depth of action: shallow, medium and deep.

Depending on the skin problem, we establish a specific programme and a quote.

Melasma

Melasma is a totally benign, but cosmetically embarrassing condition.

It results in brown spots, more or less scopes on the face. These tasks are usually bilateral and symmetrical, but not always. Affecting mainly the forehead, cheeks, sometimes the Chin, melasma gives an aspect of mask, from which the name of pregnancy mask. The border of these tasks is irregular, like a geography map.

In 90% of cases, the melasma occurs in women, especially if they are in a period of genital activity, Hispanic or Oriental origin. Oral contraception can sometimes cause a melasma, but there is no guarantee that its judgment be regressing said melasma.

Triggers / aggravating

• It is to have a dark skin
• Hormonal impregnation: pregnancy, the pill taking, m•ais sometimes the mere fact of being a woman is sufficient to cause a melasma.
• Sun exposure is the single aggravating factor on which we can act.

Medical support

First make sure that the correct diagnosis that must be made by a dermatologist. Then, judge the importance and depth of melasma, superficial or deep, epidermal or dermal, or even mixed.

More melasma will have a deep component and it will be difficult to improve.

Treatments

Unfortunately there is no miracle treatment, coup-de-magic wand of melasma, because we do not know the intimate, cellular or molecular mechanisms. Melasma is a dynamic condition that tends to be self-sustaining.

Once the improvement obtained (almost never from complete disappearance!) thanks to the treatments, instructions solar protection and treatment whitening at home will endure.

At the SKINPULSE Centre, we therefore encourage the following treatments:

• Daily Sun protection with an index 50 +
• Daily topical depigmenting products
• Chemical peels of different kinds, depending on your skin type and severity of your melasma
• Optionally, lasers, especially fractional non-ablative, which may in some cases complete peels.

It should be noted that health insurance don’t reimburse any of the related melasma (products, peels or laser) treatments.
